Marathon recital of Thyagaraja kritis concludes in Tirupati

Programme draws to a close with Anjaneya utsavam and Mangala Harathy

MUSICAL TREAT: Musicians performing at the 24-hour non-stop recital of Thyagaraja kritis that concluded in Tirupati on Sunday

TIRUPATI: It was sweet honey that flowed into the ears of listeners for 24 hours non-stop. No surprise then that the classical music lovers of Tirupati relished the feast by staying overnight at the Seetharamaswamy temple.

Sadguru Sri Thyagarajeswara swamy bhakta mandali, a cultural association organised "Akhanda Aradhana mahotsavam"( అఖండ ఆరాధన మహోత్సవం ), a marathon recital of Sri Thyagaraja kritis, at the Seetharamaswamy shrine (Saibaba temple complex) that began early on Saturday and concluded on Sunday with Anjaneya utsavam and Mangala Harathy.

Marathon event

In fact, this is for the second time that the mandali is holding such a marathon event.

Laying emphasis on the famous kriti of the great composer, "Suddha manassuleka bhajana cheyuta sookara vrutthira o manasa" [ "శుద్ధ మనస్సులేక భజన చేయుట సూకర వ్రుత్తిరా ఓ మనసా" ] (singing hymns on Him without applying heart is of no use), the singers, including classical singers, music college teachers, and upcoming artistes, sang the compositions. `Pancharatna kritis', the five famous compositions considered the masterpiece of Thyagaraja, were rendered in group by all the participants.

A musician Ramani Sharma coordinated while V.L. Kumar, a violinist from Chennai and Pratapachandra Sarma Ghanapati, a teacher at the TTD's Vedapatasala in Tirumala took part in the musical event.
