Clinton lauds Telugus' role in the US

Global connection: TDP president Chandrababu Naidu with former US President Bill Clinton at the TANA convention in Washington DC

HYDERABAD: Former President Bill Clinton has praised the contribution of people from India, particularly Andhra Pradesh, to the development of Americans in their own country.

Addressing the business forum at the 16th conference of Telugu Association of North America (TANA) in Washington on Thursday, he lauded the role of Indians in software industry, particularly, in the Silicon Valley, much to the delight of the gathering of NRI Telugus.

Mr. Clinton observed that the contribution of Indians in the technical advancement of the US was significant and dismissed emerging criticism against outsourcing.

The former President affectionately referred to former Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu as “Naidoo” who was among the guests from Andhra Pradesh attending the conference.

The others present were D. Purandareswari, Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development, Telugu film actor Balakrishna and his family members.

Earlier Bandla Hanumaiah, TANA president welcoming the gathering, underlined the significant contribution made by TANA in promoting and sustaining Telugu and its rich culture in the US. Cultural programmes presented by youth and presentation of ‘Pratibha Puraskars’ were the highlights of the proceedings that followed.
