Telugu Bhasha Brahmotsavam hits new publicity trail

A giant LED screen installed outside Mahati Auditorium in Tirupati

TIRUPATI: For the first-ever Telugu Bhasha Brahmotsavams being held here, the main roads turned virtual auditoriums thanks to the marvels of modern technology.

The Brahmotsavams is the reincarnation of yesteryears’ Telugu Bhasha Samskruthi Varotsavalu. With people pouring into the venue - Mahati Auditorium, which has a capacity of 2,000, organisers came up with a strategy to adopt modern technology to address the crisis.

They set up a giant LED screen outside the auditorium in addition to two screens. People who could not find a seat or a place to stand inside, can watch the proceedings on the screens outside the auditorium.

One more LED giant screen was set up at the entrance to Gandhi Street near Nalgugukalla Mandapam, close to Sri Govindraja Swamy temple and railway station. Loudspeakers were fixed to electric poles.

Besides, posters and hoardings of noted poets, poetesses, and eminent personalties of Telugu language, literature and history were erected at strategic places and colourful banners were seen anywhere, giving the town a festive look.

These programs and all are good, but they may not increase the popularity of Telugu among our people.

To popularize telugu - tie Telugolla weakness with current TV trend

It may sound outlandish, but I have one idea which is quite practical and can become a commercial venture too, if properly implemented by right people.

We are not children, and we know that it is all about economy. If a certain trend has an economic benefit, no matter what people talk against, they end up adapting that new trend.

Given the current scenario that our people are not that much concerned about telugu. We need to see how "awareness of Telugu" can make people rich.

That is where my idea kicks in. Mana telugollakunna bangaram picchi kuuda meekevariki teliyandi kaadu.

So, connecting these two together, how about a TV competition called 'Paluke Bangaramaayena'.

There will be different rounds
* First round - basic elimination round through phone,(most probably it will end up being through pairavi's, which is alright, and still serves the purpose)
* Second round - different aspects of basic telugu
* Telugu vocabulary test - given the description, giving the word
* Samanarthalu
* Maandalikaalu
* Third round - addressing the literary aspect
* factual questions on prominent novels and products
* questions from the plots of certain famous telugu novels

You can easily figure out the effect this contest can have on the Telugu people, if this program is implemented with success.

And, there will be prize money in terms of gold at every level.

If who ever tries to execute this plan, has right connections in Telugu media industry, they can definitely take a cue from this and can come up with a beautiful concept, which can cause fever among Telugu people.

Thos who organize this can also end up publishing books to be successful in this contest, which has the potential to
* generate extra revenue towards conducting the program, and
* inadvertently make bigger audience read and pay attention to Telugu

If only, some body gives me 10 crores, I can take up this project. But these, 10 crores is nothing among the AP elite. It is only the willingness and drive to do this that are required.

If any of you have connections with right people, who have the potential and willingness to pull this through, please inform them of this idea.

"An Idea can change the world"

Satish Vemula
